Authenticity

Authenticity is a result of allowing the glow of your core to simply and delicately shine through every word you say and move you make. Authenticity is holding this space for yourself – no matter what happens in your external environment.

It’s your own, personal bubble of freedom, joy and lots of self discovery:)

Authenticity is as refreshing to BE as it is to be around.

Being around someone that practices authenticity, you can sense a grounded energy. It’s genuine and easy interaction. I’m hooked on these peeps. I love to spend time with people with these attributes. It feeds me, teaches me, and feels good.

ANGER

I believe that anger can morph a moment into an inferno.

I believe anger stems from fear on some level.

I believe acute anger is more intense, piercing, and slamming than chronic anger, but that both are severely destructive.

I believe anger yields the opposite of it’s desired results.

I believe anger is a cover-up emotion.

I believe anger is a perfect access point to what’s REALLY going on inside our minds.

Anger gives us an opportunity to dig deep and grow. Will you take that opportunity?

For me, the layers of truth underneath anger are juicy self-coaching ground.

Purpose

I believe our purpose is to follow our joy.

When we take part in things that bring us deep joy, we enter into a state of happiness. We discover what we are passionate about based on our level of joy with what we are experiencing. The more we plug into things that bring us true joy, the more we get filled up on the inside. And when that happens, we inevitably spread some crazy-goodness in the world by simply BEING in that consistent state of following joy and happiness. Other’s are inspired to do the same.

Another thing that happens when we follow joy: We come from a place of love with the people, places and things in our environment. Doesn’t that rock?!

If you honor the internal aspect, you will find that the external manifestations of living your purpose are ever changing and evolving…

Let go of trying to find the end-all-be-all thing you’re supposed to be doing in life…

That will continuously change and mold over time as you follow your path of truth and joy.

Fellow coach and awesome chic, Dani Fake Webb, started a challenge a few days ago called, “I believe…” Challenge. Every day, she will assign a word/topic where you will write what you believe. Here’s an excerpt from her blog describing how the challenge will work:

“Every day during the month of July, I will be posting either a written or video blog post about something that I believe. And I invite you to do the same, blogging about what you believe.

Why?

I believe that for each person to really settle into his or her Authentic Self, it is important to know what YOU believe. Not what you should believe. Not what you have been told. Not what the happy/successful/skinny/perfect people believe, but what you really believe.

In this world of information overload, it can be difficult to sort out what you believe from all the noise that exists.”

So, I’m taking on the challenge:) Join me?

Look for the first entry…the assigned topic is PURPOSE:)

Love,

Melissa

Last week, someone asked me:

“What qualifies you [a life coach] to give advice?”

People tend to associate life coaching with advice giving. And there are times when my life experiences come in handy in relating to people. But my job is not to give advice.

My job is to lead you, as my client, (and your brain) down a path of inquiry that you normally would not explore. Our mind tends to go down the same general path when faced with a situation. But your usual way is not the only way to look at things. It’s just what you are used to!

I use specific tools, methods, exercises, and visualizations that require you to think in a way that you haven’t before.

I don’t provide the answers. You do.

Bottom line: I will NEVER have the ability to know YOUR truth. Only you can know that.

I just help you uncover it:)

The Whisper Inside

We get so caught up in the business and noise of our own individual worlds that we often times lose ourselves.

Our true self gets covered up and ignored. And often times it happens without us even knowing it.

The evidence of this happening is impatience, snippiness, unexplained sadness, anger, dread, etc. Many continue trucking along in that same life and think that it’s just supposed to be that way.

But what if you took time to hear the whispers that come from inside?

You don’t have to have some fancy method to do this. It’s not complicated.

Give yourself two minutes of silence. (You’ll probably crave more of this time once you give yourself this taste.)

Sit with the silence with an attitude of openness and allowing. Don’t try to hear anything.

Keep this up and you will no doubt gain more peace and clarity. Your soul will speak.

You will hear the whispers.

Keep it up and the whispers will feel more like a soft talk.

Keep it up and the soft talk will feel more like an empowering voice.

After more time, it will feel like angels are blowing their beautiful horns of glory! :)

Okay, I may have gone overboard there…you get my point.

It’s the practice (not perfect, the PRACTICE) of a level of self-care that will take your life to new heights.

There is a woman out there named Bindu Wiles. She’s a smack your knee kind of funny, Tibetan Buddhist, devoted yogi, eloquent writer, and life coach. I enjoy reading her stuff from time to time. She cracks me up all while stimulating my crazy mind:)

A shout-out to creativity consultant, Andrea Maurer, for introducing me to this one of a kind woman/blog.

Yesterday I saw a facebook post by business advisor, writer, and fellow creative – Danielle Laporte- about a new challenge/project that Bindu Wiles is starting (today actually). I checked in out last night and I’m in!

The challenge is called 21.5.800.

For 21 days, you do 5 days a week of yoga and write 800 words/day.

The rules aren’t as rigid as you’re probably thinking in your mind. You don’t have to go to a yoga studio…you can do it at home with a dvd or she offers up an easy pose (where you just lay on the ground, palms up for 15-30 minutes) to practice.

As for the writing…no rules there either. It can be ANYTHING. Fiction. Nonfiction. Journaling. A memoir. Blog. Business plans. Essays. Letters. ANYTHING.

I almost dismissed this challenge as I’m crazy-busy with traveling and work this month. But I sat and considered it.

A little yoga couldn’t hurt anything. It’s easy to say I don’t have time, but 15 minutes…c’mon. I’d be lying to myself if I said “I don’t have time for 15 minutes.”

And the writing…800 words is lofty. But seeing as how there are NO restrictions with what I write, it’s do-able! While I’m on a plane (as I will be 8 different times in June alone) I can crank it out to meet that day’s quota for sure. And waking up early to do morning pages is something that actually sounds appealing to me. I’ll let you know if that fades.

So, that is some of what I’ll be up to this month. Feel free to join me! And let me know if you do!

I’ll keep you posted on how it’s going:)

I Tivo Oprah everyday. Once or twice a week, I’ll buzz through a show or two and unwind with the queen of television. I only watch the shows that have titles that really interest me.

This week, I sat down to watch the interview with Queen Rania of Jordan (She’s pretty cool, by the way!).

Then Melissa Etheridge came on for an interview.

I’ve never been a raving fan of her music, but I figured I might as well continue to be comfy on my couch and see what she’s bringin’ to the table.

And bring it she did.

She’s been through a lot and offered some good little truth nuggets about life. One in particular struck a chord with me:

“You have to make a choice to perceive life as: ‘Is this the most horrible thing that ever happened to me? Or is this the greatest opportunity for me?’”

I love the way she put this.

I teach this all the time to my clients (and myself). And there are infinite ways to make this same point. But for some reason, the simplicity of this really resonated with me.

This is what it all boils down to.

THE ONLY WAY TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE IS TO START LOOKING AT IT DIFFERENTLY.

And yes, I’m even talking to those of you that are in what feels like the very bottom pits of hell.

It is your choice. Always.

And that is a beautiful thing.

The Epiphany Moment

My buddy, Matt Cheuvront, put together this amazing project called The Epiphany Moment. A few months ago, Matt asked me if I’d submit a short video describing that moment where it all came together in my mind. My epiphany! I gladly accepted as he ROCKS and didn’t want to miss out on something he was doing:)

So, here it is…Check it out:) He did a really great job! A few of my favorite people were included in this project (like the always inspiring Jenny Blake and Lindsay Berglund) and I bet you’ll have a few favorites too!

Here is a trailer of The Epiphany Moment: http://www.lifewithoutpants.com/awareness/the-epiphany-moment/

And here is all of the videos that were apart of the epiphany project: http://www.lifewithoutpants.com/epiphany/

Our light bulb moments are FASCINATING, aren’t they?!
